This is a letter to tell you all about me and your dad's firsts. I was listening to "Do You Remember" by Jack . Johnson and thought to myself, "I should make sure to tell Baby Bear how it all began before I get too old and forget. :)
First time I saw him: He came into church {late}. We were singing the opening hymn, I looked over and saw him, thought, "Whoa, handsome." Then...that was pretty much it. I wasn't really one for chasing.
First time I actually saw him and talked: In October of 2009 there was a Single's Conference in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where Pres. Uchtdorf came to speak....Russell was there with his friend Seth and I was there with my friend Hannah. We were...mingling, in the gym and they came to talk to us since we both knew Seth fairly well....your dad asked me what I thought his hair smelled like...I told him, "Like you've been sweating."
First time he asked me out: It was a Sunday and I had to give a talk because I was on the Institute committee. As I gave my talk I couldn't help but to keep looking at him...I just thought he was so handsome, but he was sitting with a girl so I didn't think anything else of it until.....after Sacrament meeting I was in the foyer talking to some of my friends about the talk I had given. I was enjoying a nice *normal* conversation until I felt someone's arm go around my shoulders...I stopped talking and turned, surprised to see Russell standing there.
Me, "Uhhh....hi?"
Him, "Hi....that was a really good talk you gave" *awkward removal of the arm*
Me, "Oh, thanks, I was pretty nervous. I don't really do the whole public speaking thing. *awkward looking at the floor*
Him, "Well, I thought it was fantastic. So ummm do you wanna go out this Saturday?"
Me, *Extremely surprised* "Uhh well I would but there's a football game and I already have plans to go to it with my friend."
Him, "All day?"
Me, "No."
Him, "Okay, well how about an early morning date? I'll pick you up at 10. What's your address and number?"
And there it was, we started texting and talking. I asked him what was with the other girl. He said they were broken up but that it was still hard and kind of awkward. I understood, I've been there before...
First date: He texted me around 8:00 a.m. to remind me to take allergy medicine because I'm allergic to cats. I thought to myself, "So sweet that he remembered....". Then he took me to an arcade called Main Event. We went glow-in-the-dark golfing....he didn't know it at the time but I truly despise golfing. This is only because I'm horrible at it. We went out to his parent's house and rode 4 wheelers. It was my first time ever and I was TERRIFIED. He could tell I was nervous...so being the "smooth" guy he is he said, "You know, if you want to wrap your arms around me it might make you feel safer." I said, "ha." We went back to his house and made Chicken Pillows (still one of our favorite dinners), played games with his family, and watched movies. It was the longest date I've ever been on...It was about 6 or 7 hours long. It was also my favorite. :)
First time we held hands: I went out to his house after a long, awful, stressful day. I had been crying and warned him that I had no make up on. When I got there he said, "You look so so beautiful." I.was.hooked. We watched a movie and held hands.
First kiss: We were at my house talking in the bedroom. We had been laughing and joking and he kissed my forehead. I said, "ummm you missed." and I kissed him on the lips. *DO NOT be like your mother!*
First "serious" conversation: He took me on a walk around my neighborhood and told me that he didn't want to be with anyone else and he didn't want me to be with anyone else either.
First "I love you's": He told me while we were driving in the car....I was so nervous I told him the first time....over a text message. I know I know...SUPER LAME. But it didn't mean anything less.
Everything else is history. :)
Love,
Your ever adoring mother.
