Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam

Yesterday at school there was a little boy who was coughing so hard he was choking at naptime so I told him to come sit in the chair next to me instead of laying down. He was sitting next to me and I said, “So what songs do you sing at church?” He got a wildly excited look on his face and said, “Um, ‘Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam’ and ‘Praise to the Man’ and ‘Scripture Power’ and a lot of others. We sing a loooot at church!” I was amazed to say the least, he’s three years old and he started singing me the songs that he learned in Primary! He then said, “Oh yeah and in Primary sometimes I have to give talks but I like it. And we sing, ‘I belong to the church of Jesus Christ….’ I don’t remember the rest.”

He went on, “And in the Temple you always wear white. And at church I wear a white shirt and cowboy boots, you’re supposed to wear cowboy boots! And a tie. And someday when I’m like a lot older when I can drive then I’ll go on a mission! And when I’m eight my dad will baptize me, you have to put your head under the water, you know. I go to the church where there’s another church kind of beside it and kind of behind it too. But it’s not just a church.”

I asked him if it was called a Temple and he was OVERJOYED to hear that I knew what he was talking about.
I was so overcome with this sweet missionary experience so I wrote a letter to his mom all about it because I figured, if I were a mom I would want to know about the sweet moments like that. His eyes were bright and excited because he was getting to talk about Primary.

It was such a sweet experience to see someone so young and so willing to start talking about the gospel in his tiny three year old way.

I talked to his aunt and his mother about it. His mom is active but his aunt is not. I was telling her about the experience and she asked me what ward I’m in. I told her Canyon West but that Russell and I would probably be moving into Shadow Hills at the end of the year. She said, “Well if you move into Shadow Hills then I’ll go to church with you.”

Fast forward to 8:00 p.m. The sister missionaries came over and one of them used to serve in the Shadow Hills ward. When I told her what the boy’s aunt had said her jaw dropped. She then went on to say that the sisters and the Elders both had tried for months to get her to come and that her willingness to come if I did was amazing. I felt so blessed to know that someone had trust enough in me to be willing to come to church when it had been so long since she had even considered it.

Pray for missionary opportunities, I did. Have you had any cool missionary experiences!??
